On Tuesday, October 27, Intuitive had an opportunity to give back to our neighbors in Manayunk by offering a day of service to the North Light Community Center. Coincidentally, (and we do mean coincidentally), it was also the “Day of Kindness” in Philadelphia. North Light Community Center offers children and parents a variety of services and activities.
All in all, our team had a lot of fun—filling trick-or-treat bags for the kids, decorating pumpkins, and making scarecrows were some of the seasonal activities, but we left more of an Intuitive mark on the community center building itself. From painting the playground and flower boxes to giving the entire building a top-to-bottom “Harvest” cleaning, we spent much of the day washing windows, mopping floors, and cleaning and organizing the Kitchen, Arts and Crafts, Assembly and Tot rooms. A few of our more technical team members also helped set up 25 new computers in the computer lab and install them with new software.
The staff members at North Light were a collection of smiles—they are truly passionate people about their mission in the neighborhood. Following our cleaning and painting, a couple of people from NL actually challenged some of our more nimble teammates to a rousing game of four square on the newly painted court. Watch out for Dan Speca—that guy is a shark in the king’s square.
Once the match-ups were done, the team wandered down to Lucky’s Last Chance for a well-deserved lunch and a few drinks. Mmm. It was the perfect ending to a great day.
