Intuitive Company conducted the following project before joining Ernst & Young LLP.

Intuitive delved into higher education work with Post University—a for-profit university located in Waterbury, Connecticut—to give the website a complete makeover.

How do we most efficiently deliver relevant information to current and prospective students?

Searching for information on schools can be overwhelming, so we needed to focus on clear visual display of the most important, accurate information.

Bringing relevant information to the forefront, and removing cluttered content helped to create a seamless user experience.

The creation of new templates and integration with a content management system further simplified site management.

Information architecture

The largest part of this project was creating a user-centered hierarchy from the vast array of information. Our research showed us that users know ahead of time if they are interested in studying on campus or online. To facilitate a deeper interaction with the user’s study preference, we separated that content from the homepage. This allows the user to drill down into specific detail about an available program that meets their needs. To inform the creation of a hierarchy, we did a card-sorting exercise. This helped us determine exactly what information users needed the most.

On the development end, Post needed efficiency. We evaluated their needs and helped research the best content management system. The points of focus were shared content and ease of use for editors—for example, the process of updating a course description in one place in the CMS had to be simple, and that same course description needed to automatically update everywhere else it was found on the site as well.

Design concept

Make it clean, make it green. We wanted to rebrand Post to remain consistent with the new information architecture: simple, uncluttered and easy to use. The previous design was text-heavy, with links and unordered lists dominating the screen. Our design concept condensed the information, and our research from the card-sorting exercises helped us to place and organize information. Adding more of Post’s existing green color helped anchor the data into distinct categories, and we also distinguished links from plain text.
